EU Proposes Health Cyber Hub

The European Commission has unveiled an EU-wide action plan to safeguard the healthcare sector from cyber threats. A dedicated centre will be created within the EU’s cybersecurity agency ENISA to protect health organisations. This move aims to address the alarming rate of cyber attacks, with nearly 54% of attacks targeting the health sector being ransomware.

The plan includes establishing a Cybersecurity Support Centre to provide organisations with tailored basic cybersecurity support. It will also produce cybersecurity learning resources for healthcare professionals and develop an EU-wide warning service when threats are detected. The Commission is seeking financial contributions from EU countries and recommends the development of “Cybersecurity Vouchers” to support small healthcare organisations. The plan aims to enhance cybersecurity and protect the healthcare sector from evolving threats.
