EU Boosts Digital Infrastructure

The European Commission has launched its second work programme for the digital component of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) Digital, investing €865m in funding from 2024 to 2027. This initiative aims to improve Europe’s digital connectivity, a crucial step towards achieving the EU’s 2030 Digital Decade goals. The programme will support the deployment of advanced gigabit and 5G infrastructures, as well as backbone cable projects.

The CEF Digital programme plays a vital role in enhancing Europe’s digital infrastructure, with a total budget of €2bn allocated until 2027. The programme will co-finance large-scale projects promoting the rollout of 5G and gigabit networks in key sectors like healthcare, transport, and manufacturing. This will drive the integration of cloud computing and edge capabilities, improving the resilience and performance of connectivity networks.
