Indonesia Introduces Online Safety Regulations

Indonesia is taking significant steps to address growing concerns over children’s safety in the digital space. The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs is leading efforts to create a comprehensive regulatory framework. A special team has been established to draft regulations, focusing on strengthening government surveillance, raising awareness about social media risks, and addressing harmful content.

The regulation aims to include age restrictions on social media access, controlling harmful content consumption, and restricting children’s exposure to digital platforms. Indonesia’s internet penetration has reached 79.5%, with younger generations having even higher access rates. The regulation is expected to be completed within a two-month timeline, marking a significant step forward in ensuring children’s well-being in the digital age.
