Osaka, Japan’s third-largest city, is set to become a testing ground for AI-driven, extended reality (XR) urban environments. The Digital Entertainment City Namba project integrates AI-powered avatars, spatial computing, and decentralized infrastructure at a city-wide scale. This initiative aims to redefine how cities use AI and digital overlays to enhance tourism, public services, and retail. The project’s success could transform Osaka into a model for future smart cities.
Mawari’s AI-driven 3D avatars will function as multilingual virtual guides, customer service agents, and interactive digital hosts. These avatars will be deployed throughout train stations, shopping centers, and entertainment districts. The project also features a decentralized edge computing model, reducing bandwidth costs and delivering low-latency AI and XR experiences. The initiative aims to combat Japan’s labor shortages and provide remote work possibilities.
