Senegal’s Digital Transformation Journey

The Senegalese government has launched the “New Deal Technologique,” a digital transformation strategy aimed at modernizing public service delivery. This strategy includes a unique biometrics-based national digital ID and seeks to establish a streamlined system for accessing services. The goal is to strengthen Senegal’s digital economy and reduce reliance on foreign tech expertise. The strategy will run until 2034 and is part of the broader “Senegal 2050” national transformation agenda.

Key components of the strategy include a digital government system, universal internet access, and a single citizen portal. The government also plans to establish a centralized digital platform, an incubation and funding program for startups, and update the Startup Act. The strategy is funded with an estimated $1.7 billion budget and aims to achieve 95% internet coverage, create over 150,000 jobs, and support at least 500 technology startups by 2034.
