India’s Hydrogen Transport Revolution

India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission has launched five pilot projects to introduce hydrogen fuel in buses and trucks, aiming to test its feasibility in the transport sector. These projects will deploy 37 hydrogen-powered vehicles and set up nine hydrogen refueling stations across various routes. The government has allocated ₹208 crore for these projects, expected to be commissioned within 18-24 months.

The mission aims to develop commercially viable technologies, establish necessary infrastructure, and assess the safety and efficiency of hydrogen-powered vehicles. The National Green Hydrogen Mission was launched on January 4, 2023, with a total budget of ₹19,744 crore to be spent until 2029-30.
