Australia: Queensland’s Real-Time Hospital Data Initiative

The Queensland government has launched the Open Hospitals portal, a digital platform providing real-time performance data from 25 major hospital emergency departments and seven Satellite Hospitals. This initiative aims to improve transparency and accessibility within the state’s healthcare system. The platform updates critical information every 15 to 30 minutes, enabling users to access key metrics such as median patient wait times.

This represents a significant improvement over the previous system, where health data was published quarterly and often delayed. The platform’s real-time data sharing and open access principles enhance transparency and pave the way for a more efficient healthcare system. By making critical health system data readily available, the government hopes to bridge communication gaps and enhance patient outcomes.
