Indonesia’s initiative to introduce coding and artificial intelligence in schools is a forward-thinking step, but its progress seems delayed compared to China’s decades-long efforts. China’s Education Informatization program, launched in 1978, significantly increased internet access in schools and developed online learning platforms. Indonesia can learn valuable lessons from China’s success.
To accelerate digital education, Indonesia needs a structured long-term plan, political stability, and strong government commitment. Teacher training should be a priority, empowering educators with digital literacy. Indonesia’s existing platforms, such as the Platform Merdeka Mengajar, can serve as a foundation for a comprehensive digital education system. By maintaining policy consistency and maximizing the potential of its digital platforms, Indonesia can accelerate its journey toward an inclusive and advanced education system.
