Pakistan to Get Google Pay

Google Pay is set to launch in Pakistan, marking a significant milestone in the country’s expanding digital payment landscape. The service will enable Pakistani users to link their bank-issued debit and credit cards to Google Pay for seamless contactless payments. The launch will focus initially on enabling basic contactless payments, with more features to be added later.

Pakistan’s payment infrastructure is well-positioned to support Google Pay, with 133,000 point-of-sale terminals, 99% of which are already equipped to accept mobile contactless payments. The launch of Google Pay is expected to boost Pakistan’s burgeoning digital payments sector, which has witnessed rapid growth in recent years. Electronic payments now account for 9.3% of the total value of all transactions in the country. The expansion of digital payments is expected to accelerate through POS machines and e-commerce websites.
