UN’s $200B Biodiversity Plan

Governments have agreed to mobilize at least $200 billion annually by 2030 to fund biodiversity conservation. This agreement establishes permanent financial mechanisms and strengthens monitoring and reporting frameworks. The goal is to implement the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) and protect the world’s biodiversity.

The agreement sets a target of $20 billion per year in international funding by 2025, increasing to $30 billion by 2030. A monitoring framework has been finalized to track global and national progress toward the KMGBF’s 23 targets and four goals. The Cali Fund will receive contributions from private sector entities and direct at least 50% of its resources to indigenous and local communities. This milestone ensures long-term financial and strategic commitments to biodiversity protection through 2030 and beyond.
