US Launches Cyber Safety Label

The US government has launched the U.S. Cyber Trust Mark, a cybersecurity safety label for internet-connected consumer devices. This label will help American consumers determine whether the devices they want to buy are safe to install in their homes. The Cyber Trust Mark is designed for consumer smart devices, such as home security cameras and fitness trackers.

The label ensures that devices meet certain cybersecurity criteria, including unique and strong default passwords, software updates, and data protection. Consumers can scan a QR code next to the label for additional security information. The program is voluntary, but companies like BestBuy and Amazon will be highlighting labeled products.
